Cisco makes a play and goes further to lock horns with Microsoft

Cisco conjured up $3.2 billion in an offer to buy WebEx. For those of you who don’t know what WebEx is, it’s an online meeting place that allows for desktop sharing. Typically it’s used by businesses to hold online meetings and share PowerPoint slides. Its amazing technology.

On another note - Microsoft is making inroads into this space, both online meeting hosting and Enterprise VoIP. Their new product - Office Live Server is a competing product to Cisco’s CallManager product. At my work, we chose Cisco as a VoIP provider, but Microsoft’s offerings are treading close to Cisco’s. Want to have voicemail in your Outlook inbox? Well now you can choose between Cisco and Microsoft solutions….veeeerrrryyyyy interesting.
