Nokia Chat Updated: Now Supports More Devices

When the location aware Nokia Chat client was released, it only supported Nokia phones that were running Feature Pack 1 or 2.  With the latest release of Nokia Chat, any handset running S60 3rd Edition can run the mobile IM application, which is available from the Beta Labs Chat page.  A few of the new handsets now included are: the N71, N93, N80, and E61.

One of the unique features of Nokia Chat is the ability to send your location to the person you’re chatting with.  This feature will only work on the FP1 phones because the non-FP1 devices do not include an on-board GPS chip.  However, if you have a Bluetooth GPS module, you can use this GPS functionality.

It’s good to see Nokia supporting older handsets with this handy IM client.  It’s been a blessing to me to be able to IM on my phone with my address book contacts when making a call isn’t prudent.
