Nokia Releases the N79

After much speculation of what features and looks the Nokia N79 would have, Nokia has finally announced the highly anticipated Nseries handset. The candybar N79 has a great array of capabilities including Quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) and dual-band WCDMA (900/2100Mhz).

Which in normal human terms means we in the United States will not have 3G connectivity. The 900 and 2100Mhz 3G bands are Europe and Asian only. However, the N79 does have Wi-Fi which will grant high speed data access when you’re in range of a Wi-Fi hotpsot.

As you can see, the N79 is a beautiful device. In terms of features, the N79 is packing:

  • Symbian 9.3, S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2
  • Wi-Fi
  • A-GPS chip
  • 5 mega-pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual-LED flash
  • VGA quality video recording at 30 frames per second
  • Front-facing camera for video calls.

I think it is great that Nokia has stepped up with the N79. It appears to be a quality handset that has some powerful features in a gorgeous package. I wish it came in a US 3G model, however including WiFi helps negate this dis-advantage somewhat.

The list price for the N79 is $521 before any taxes and subsidies. The Nokia promotional video follows:

Yes the N79 is beautiful, but doesn’t look solid built. Design wise it is not as stylish as its successor N78. The main selling point must be the interface theme color which can automatically change with customerized exterior. It has all-round features, but not revolutionary.
